Kua Ventures has invested KSh 12.9 million in Clover Field Dairies Ltd, a growing dairy aggregation and processing enterprise based in Nakuru County, strengthening access to safe, high-quality milk while building reliable market linkages for smallholder farmers.
The investment comes at a time when Kenya’s dairy sector remains largely informal. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization and the Kenya Dairy Board, only 15–20% of milk production passes through licensed processors, with the majority traded informally. This presents both a challenge and a significant opportunity for businesses building structured, traceable supply chains.
The investment, structured as straight debt financing, will support working capital and selective capital expenditure as the company scales milk sourcing, expands value-added production, and strengthens its distribution channels.
Founded in 2017 and formally incorporated in 2021, Clover Field Dairies processes approximately 4,000 litres of pasteurized milk daily. The company sources milk from over 300 smallholder farmers and cooperatives, ensuring consistent supply and fair pricing within a national dairy ecosystem that supports an estimated 1.8 million smallholder households, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization.
Clover Field Dairies operates a hybrid model, combining direct-to-consumer sales through milk ATMs with business-to-business supply to institutional clients and vendors. The company has also expanded into value-added dairy products including yoghurt, fermented milk (mala and mursik), and ice cream, positioning itself to improve margins and deepen market reach.
Stephen Mugo, Founder and Director of Clover Field Dairies Ltd, said the investment will support the company’s next phase of growth.
“Our focus has been on building a reliable, high-quality milk supply chain that works for both farmers and consumers. This investment allows us to scale sourcing, strengthen our processing capacity, and expand into value-added products that improve both margins and resilience.”
Purity Kimani, Investment Associate at Kua Ventures, noted that the investment aligns with the firm’s focus on supporting disciplined businesses operating in essential sectors.
“Clover Field Dairies is building the kind of regionally anchored processing capacity that strengthens both farmer livelihoods and food system reliability. We supported the business because it is moving beyond aggregation into structured processing, value-added production, and cold-chain capability – all of which position it well for growth as Kenya’s dairy sector continues formalising.”
Kua Ventures focuses on investing in growth-stage small and medium-sized enterprises operating in essential sectors such as manufacturing, agricultural value addition, and distribution. Through its Capital + Coaching + Community model, the firm works alongside founders to strengthen operations, improve financial discipline, and support long-term growth.
At the core of this approach is a conviction that capital should be stewarded responsibly and deployed in ways that reflect both discipline and purpose.
Madalena Santos, Executive Director of Kua Ventures, said:
“At Kua Ventures, faith directly shapes how we invest. It informs how we assess leadership, how we structure partnerships, and how we think about long-term value creation. We are not only evaluating financial performance; we are looking at how a business is built, how decisions are made, and whether leadership reflects the kind of stewardship required to sustain growth over time.
In sectors like dairy, where consistency, trust, and relationships are critical, that foundation matters. Businesses like Clover Field Dairies are not only improving supply chains they are building in a way that reflects responsibility to farmers, customers, and the communities they serve.”
Clover Field Dairies currently supports 15 direct jobs and several indirect jobs across processing, distribution, and operations, with additional livelihoods supported across its 300+ smallholder farmer network. As the business scales sourcing, production, and value-added lines, it is expected to create additional employment across both its processing operations and supply chain.
Clover Field Dairies joins a growing portfolio of Kenyan businesses backed by Kua Ventures that are strengthening local supply chains while creating stable employment and expanding access to essential goods.
As Kenya’s demand for safe, traceable dairy products continues to grow, companies like Clover Field Dairies are playing an increasingly important role in formalizing supply chains, improving product quality, and creating sustainable economic value across the sector particularly as formal milk consumption expands across urban and peri-urban markets.
